There’s great excitement in the cattle shed with some of the younger girls producing their very first calves. Last night we brought two new calves into the world, a heifer and a bull, mothers and babies are doing well. I don’t think there would be much room for Mary and Joseph in the cattle shed at the moment.
Friday will see a flurry of excitement as it’s PD (pregnancy diagnosis) day in the cattle shed when we find out how many more new arrivals we can expect.
In the creamery everyone is frantically busy making and wrapping cheese for festive dinner tables. Business at the farmers markets has been really brisk with housewives insisting our Cotswold Blue veined Brie is going to be a regular feature on their cheese boards.
Work in the creamery will continue right up until Christmas with just a couple of days rest.
Of course ‘the girls’ don’t stop for Christmas and so neither do I, they still need to be tended and milked and calves need seeing to. So I will be there to take care of them on the 25th as I do everyday.
